
Longreach Pastoral College (QATC)
Longreach Pastoral College is located on the Landsborough highway 3.5km east of Longreach. The College specialises in intensive and arid zone livestock (beef and sheep), horse breeding, and shearing and wool handling. Longreach Pastoral College comprises a 10,900 hectare main campus property, and an additional 6900 hectare property 'Rosebank' which is utilised for sheep and wool production training as well as beef production, grazing techniques, and to train in horsemanship skills.
Practical experience
With College property 'Rosebank' immediately adjoining the main campus, students experience full scale production enterprises where they have the opportunity to practice their rural skills.
'Rosebank' consists of mainly undulating open Mitchell grass plains on cracking clay soils, with scattered or isolated trees and minor areas of sparse forbland on scalds, opening up to alluvia and adjoining gidyea woodlands, jump ups, or soft mulga sand ridges. Soils are deep grey, brown and red, strongly cracking clays with self-mulching surfaces derived from freshwater sandstone sediment. The average yearly rainfall for Rosebank is 450mm
Classrooms
Modern classroom facilities include a computer room, 72 seat auditorium, air-conditioned classrooms, shearing shed and wool room, slaughterhouse, automotive and welding workshops and covered horse arenas.
