Find Your Excellence at PLC
At PLC, we believe everyone has their own excellence just waiting to be uncovered. Whether it is in the classroom, on the stage, in the laboratory or on the sporting field, we encourage and inspire students to find their excellence and embrace life’s opportunities with confidence and optimism.
PLC is modern Melbourne, a school for today's girls with a rich heritage, a warm welcoming community and an exciting future. Founded in 1875, PLC has a proud tradition of producing young women of the highest calibre who go on to make a significant contribution in their world.
We instil in girls a love of learning within a broad stimulating curriculum that celebrates encouragement, respect and self-discipline. Our outstanding holistic education focuses on each girl’s personal growth and leadership. Our staff are highly involved in their students’ learning journeys and focus on the individual student, nurturing and affirming girls, enabling them to achieve their personal goals. They learn to make lasting friendships and enjoy experiences that will shape the rest of their lives.
At PLC, girls are also encouraged to stretch themselves and become critical thinkers and problem-solvers, able to look outside themselves at the challenges facing their world and take responsibility for helping and contributing where they can.
In recent years, the College has undergone an unprecedented transformation that has seen the development of a state-of-the-art iconic new Performing Arts Centre. Additionally the College has built a new Learning Resource Centre with a stunning new Library, IT and AV labs; a dedicated Year 7 Centre, a new hockey and tennis facility, a complete redevelopment of our Science Precinct facilities and the total transformation of the Year 7, 8 and 9 Classrooms, with the final years set to be complete in the near future.
Our state-of-the-art Boarding House provides a friendly and safe environment for over 100 girls from regional Australia and abroad. This modern and comfortable facility features individual bedrooms for senior girls and shared rooms for younger girls. Boarders have access to the College's extensive recreational and sporting facilities as well as computers for study needs.
Sporting skills, physical health and fitness and an understanding of the importance of teamwork are integral to a healthy lifestyle and are emphasised in the sporting program that incorporates the full range of Girls Sports Victoria (GSV) plus a number of specialist sports.
PLC offers a wide range of opportunities for girls. In 2017, girls participated in three major stage productions with boys from Scotch College. House concerts are also a major school highlight with girls undertaking every aspect of the creative development of these mini musicals, including script writing, acting, music, singing and dancing, backdrops, props and direction. PLC encourages girls to explore their love of music, whether singing in choirs, playing in their own rock band or jazz group, composing music, performing in orchestras or simply refining their skills on one of many musical instruments from which they may choose. There is a compulsory sequential outdoor education program in Years 7 to 11.
PLC offers a comprehensive curriculum and both the VCE and International Baccalaureate (IB).
